About Us

Healthy Child Uganda (HCU) is a partnership between Ugandan and Canadian teams striving to improve maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health in southwest Uganda.

We believe that communities, health providers and leaders can best manage their health needs. Working together with governments, existing health facilities, schools, and community groups, we support those living in target communities to lead activities and innovations that address their priority health challenges. Our philosophy is that sustainable and impactful change occurs when activities reach the most vulnerable people and include women, men, adolescents, children, and leaders themselves.

HCU applies evidence, measures outcomes, tests models, and supports innovation, implementation, and capacity development.

How did HCU start?

HCU was a Ugandan idea to meet needs of community served and nearby Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). With communities and Canadian supporters, HCU has grown and expanded its reach for two decades.
