UCalgary global partnership helps Ugandan district rank No. 1 in health-care performance

The Bushyeni District in southwestern Uganda has been awarded the 2020 national award for top district in healthcare among 134 districts. Under the global health partnership Healthy Child Uganda, the Office of Indigenous, Local, and Global Health at the Cumming School of Medicine worked with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology and the Canadian Paediatric Society on the MamaToto intervention. One of MamaToto’s main initiatives was to support Village Health Teams in strengthening Bushyeni’s health centres for

pre and postnatal care, safe deliveries, and outreach services. The 2020 national award is evident of the HCU partnership effectiveness in supporting health outcomes for children and mothers in Uganda.
