Munyoni Godel Health Centre II stands as a fitting legacy of our dearly missed Canadian paediatrician, Dr. John Godel. During a field visit, Dr. Godel accompanied his good friend and colleague Dr. Celestine Barigye to a very remote part of Rubirizi district where they observed many sick children. Realizing a new health facility was desperately needed to serve this population, they worked together with the community. With Godel’s support and Barigye’s leadership, the Godel Health Centre openedin 2013, managing many sick children and serving as a main training hub for Village Health Teams. As noted by a health provider,
‘The Godel Health Centre is a miracle. We, as a community, would not have had the money and resources to build a health centre here ourselves, and this donation has helped save many lives.’
